COMMENTARY:
I actually began to write the chorus of this song in California after coming back from a snow boarding trip with my good friend David Ronca. David was on the summer missions team that I was on back in 1994 when we went to Croatia. I remember just thinking about how God is always there for us, even if everyone else around us bails on us, He will never leave us or forsake us. This is the first song that I have ever written that was reggae. I have always loved reggae music since I gave my life to Christ and would listen to Christian reggae from Christifari, a band from Southern California. I saw them live while we were in Bible College in 1997. Later on, in 2005, I had the privilege of leading worship for a season with James Pach, one of the original members of Christifari, while we were at Calvary Chapel in Tigard, Oregon. He is also the one who made dreadlocks out of my long hair around that time. The off-time signature rhythm is just a part of who I am...from where it originated, in Africa, and then from Jamaica and the Carribean. I make it my aim to incorporate indigenous music style and instruments into all of the original worship that flows from my heart in every country that we travel to as missionaries. Check out the little bit of "scatting" I tried to do at the end of the song on the Reckless Abandon album.

COMMENTARY:
This song is the first song on the album that my brother, Phil and I released called "Reckless Abandon" in 2004. We recorded the album in Colorado Springs on a small digital recording unit, thus the reason the quality of the album is not the greatest. Most people would never think that heavy metal and worship could be words that were interchangeable. Our hope in writing many of the songs on this album, including this song, was that the younger generation we were working with in Colorado Springs would be able to use them as an expression of worship that was more relevant to the style of music they were in to. Of course, my brother and I also grew up listening to heavy metal and enjoying that style of music. We wanted to draw that generation into God's presence with music that would be considered "darker" or "over the edge" by many people. This song is a song of complete surrender of ourselves to the will of God.

COMMENTARY:

This is probably the most popular worship ballad that I have written. It has been translated and recorded into the Polish language as well. This is a song about gratitude, and yet transparency. It is my heart's cry that when people look at me, that they would see Jesus living in me, rather than just who I am in the outside.

COMMENTARY:
Have you ever felt as though you were spiritually in critical condition? I have. This song speaks right to the heart of those of us who feel so helpless without God. This song was written just before we moved to Colorado Springs. I really think the imagery of being in a hospital room is a beautiful one. And we have a Great Physician who can heal us body, soul and spirit.

COMMENTARY:
This song is the first of a handful that were co-written by my good friend Brian Vargas and I. Brian and I had been in a couple of different Christian bands in the past. He has a great writing style that is unique and differs from what I would naturally write which brings diversification to my original worship songs. This song is a reminder that "the Kingdom of God is near," and even "the Kingdom of God is within you." This song was recorded and released on "Reckless Abandon."

COMMENTARY:

For much of this song I was doing the writing at Hillside Alliance Church, where I was one of the worship leaders for a few years. There are seasons that we go through, even as Christ-followers, that seem to be the darkest of nights. Yet with Christ by our side, He will guide us through those seasons. In fact, He is the Light that shines in the darkness. When we are hand in hand with our Savior, Jesus Christ, the darkness around us is forced to flee from us.

COMMENTARY:
This song had it's beginings on the island of Pohnpei where we were missionaries. There was a time where we were responsible for pastoring two churches on the island. One church in the main town, Kolonia, which was a large cinder block building and the other church on the other side ofthe island in Madolenihmw. That church was local-style with no walls and built from mangrove logs and a tin roof. One day, while I was leading worship for our youth group in Madolenihmw, I began to sing the song, "Spirit Of The Living God." We were just having a time of spontaneous worship and I began to sing about the wind of the Holy Spirit. Just then a very strong wind began to blow violently in and around the church building, but no where else that we could see on the island. As I stopped singing about the wind of the Holy Spirit, the wind died out. Thinking it was just coincidence, I began to sing again about the wind of the Holy Spirit, and again, it became very windy only in and around the church. I could hardly believe it. Then when I quit singing about the wind of the Holy Spirit it died out again. I figured I would try it one more time and so I did, and as I sand, the wind of the Holy Spirit blew in and around that place of worship. The thing is, we had some new youth visiting who had never experienced the power of the true and living God. They had only experienced whatever limited power was practiced through black magic and witchcraft on the island. That day we all came away from that time of worship knowing that a miracle of God had taken place in that even the forces of nature changed in accordance to our worship of the Lord. Although I began to write this song in Micronesia, it has a very Middle Eastern and even Egyptian-type of feel. Ethnic music and beats truly moves me to inspiration in song writing.

COMMENTARY:
Starting writing the chorus of this song while installing hardwood floors in California. The part of the song that really hit me was the fact that we can offer our lives to God as a sacrifice. The Old Testament is full of imagery that paints the animal and blood sacrifices as central to the worship of Yahweh. This, of course, was fulfilled in the person of Jesus Christ, as He was the Lamb of God slain from the foundation of the world. But we, as Christ-followers, can also offer ourselves as living sacrifices to God (Romans 12:2). I have heard it said that the problem with living sacrifices is that they keep crawling off the altar. In my life, I desire to lay my entire life on God's altar, and reckon my sinful nature as dead, and that the aroma that arises from this self-sacrifice would be pleasing to Yahweh.

COMMENTARY:
This is the only song that I completed while we were missionaries on the Island of Pohnpei in Micronesia. On the beautiful, tropical island of Pohnpei there is a landmark called, "Sokehs Rock" located right in front of "Sokehs Mountain." We took our youth group on a hike to the top of "Sokehs Mountain" where there is a breath-taking view of the entire island surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and the barrier reef, protecting the island itself from the crashing waves. This is the highest point in Pohnpei that we could climb. The water is a magnificent blue with shades of blue-green as the sun hits the various coral reefs. We would often go spear-fishing and snorkeling inside the barrier reef. But the best time to go spear-fishing in the coral reefs was at night because the fish would sleep in holes in the coral. We would take a flashlight in one hand and a Hawaiian-style spear in the other hand. We would literally search the deep for these sleeping rock fish that made delicious meals with rice and soy sauce. After seeing all of these wonders that God created, from the highest of mountains, to the deepest parts of the coral reefs, My heart still cries out that "All I want is You. All I need is You Lord."

COMMENTARY:
This was the last song that I wrote while I was the worship leader in Modesto, California. The knowledge of my own sinfulness in the light of God's glory is so evident. Living in a fallen world and a society that seems to continue to drift away from God, we pick up a lot of dirt on a daily basis. I believe that a continual cleansing of our sin is a must. This is a song that cries out for God's forgiveness from sin; a song that cries out for a heart transplant. "Make Me Clean" is the first song on the album titled, "Make Me Clean." We released this album in Spring of 2003. It was recorded ad produced by my good friend Jonathan Johnson at The Orange Juice Factory in Fremont, California.

COMMENTARY:
My wife and I were Bible College students in Rancho Palos Verdes, California when we sat down together and wrote this very simple chorus. In this song comes the thought that if Jesus gave His life for us, the very least we can do is give our life for Him. Our heart is that Christ will continue to mold and make us into the people He has designed us to be and that we would reflect His glory to the world around us.

COMMENTARY:

I was 20 years old and on my second short-term missions trip, this time to Croatia when I wrote this song, my first ever original worship song. It is ironic that the first song that came from my heart was about one of the clsest things to my heart, the great commission. It is very simple and for the most part, straight out of Scripture. My brother, Phil and I recorded this song in 1995. I was able to share this song at Shoreline Christian Fellowship in San Leandro, California, where my dad was the pastor after I returned from my missions trip. I was able to share this song a few years ago as well at Calavary Chapel in Tigard, Oregon when one of our friends was holding a fund-raiser for her missions trip to Nigeria.
